Kuwaiti Adults' Physical Activity Levels during COVID Lockdown
Abstract
Introduction
The Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has led to unprecedented global restrictions, prompting concerns regarding physical inactivity.
Methods
This study investigated physical activity (PA) levels among adults in Kuwait during the COVID pandemic using the International PA Questionnaire Short Form (IPAQ-SF) distributed via an online survey through social media between June and July 2020.
Results
A total of 679 Kuwaiti adults completed the IPAQ-SF. Results show that 28.9% were in the high PA category, 35.8% in the moderate PA category, and 35.3% in the low PA category. While no significant differences between genders were detected (P=0.460), PA levels were significantly associated with age (P=0.022) among adults in Kuwait.
Discussions
This study emphasizes the necessity for a targeted public health initiative to encourage PA during pandemics in Kuwait.
Conclusion
During viral pandemics, national health awareness programs to encourage PA should focus on adults over 45 years.
